The Healthy Housing Coalition is planning a variety of types of housing to meet a variety of needs. The biggest need for housing is single persons with MCS, many with low incomes and no ability to purchase their own home. The second greatest need is an "Oasis," consisting of temporary shelter or accessible campground where a person or family could stay on a short basis. All persons with MCS seem to need this from time to time when things beyond their control happen. Below is listed the plans we have to meet these needs. We are looking into places that could be easily remodeled into 1 & 2 BR townhomes and casitas. Ideal location for these would be within a hour of a major city or town that has access to organic food and medical care. While most of these would be available for long term, ongoing rentals, some units would be available for a temporary shelter. Care would be taken to choose a cleaner air location, and covenants would be in place to prevent smoking, use of pesticides and use of scented products. We are currently looking at places around Santa Fe and Albuquerque that would be suitable for our plan.
This would be a ecocommunity built on land in outlying areas for those who wish to live further away, or who have greater sensitivities. It would include a outdoor dwelling space, a community building with temporary shelter rooms, and privately owned homes and rental casitas. The plan for this has three aspects:
*The higher initial cost is due to special needs accomodations for this disability. Covenants would be in place to protect occupants from petrochemicals, toxic heavy metals, pesticides, fragrant laundry and home care products and smoke.
We are looking into retreat type settings such as bed and breakfasts, old camps, resorts, or land within the forest service, that may be avialable as a place to come stay and heal in very fresh air. Healing practitioners may make visits to the site to provide services for those staying there. We are currently seeking investors willing to purchase units for their use or rentals, as well as those with connections to foundations/and persons willing to help fund such a project. Because the need is so great for "chemically less toxic housing", they would always be rented with a waiting list to fill any vacancies. An excellent investment opportunity!
